Dr. Oliveira Presents Oliveira Lab Research at Defense TechConnect 2026
Dr. Samuel Oliveira represented the Oliveira Lab at the Defense TechConnect Innovation Summit & Expo 2026, held September 22–24 in National Harbor, Maryland. The conference brought together leaders from government, academia, industry, and the investment community to explore emerging technologies and dual-use innovations addressing national security challenges.
During the conference, Dr. Oliveira presented the poster “Programmable Microenvironments for Engineering and Controlling Collective Microbial Behavior” as part of the Biotech & Medical poster program. The work highlights the Oliveira Lab’s efforts to develop programmable experimental platforms that combine microfluidics and bioreactor networks, high-content imaging, predictive modeling, and digital twins to better understand and control collective microbial behavior.
The research aims to translate engineered microbial systems toward real-world applications, including biofilm engineering, biofouling mitigation, biomanufacturing, and field-deployable biological technologies.
Beyond the poster presentation, Defense TechConnect provided an exciting opportunity to engage with researchers, technology developers, government agencies, and industry leaders working at the intersection of biotechnology, AI, engineering, and national security. Participation in the conference reflects the Oliveira Lab’s continued commitment to translating fundamental bioengineering research into scalable and impactful technologies.
