The Oliveira Lab participated in the 122nd Annual Meeting of the North Carolina Academy of Science (NCAS), held April 24–25, 2026, at Elon University under the theme “Science Innovation: Making Interdisciplinary Connections.”
It was an exciting opportunity for lab members to share their work with the broader scientific community. On day 1, Harnish Shah presented a poster titled “A microfluidic biofilm-on-a-chip platform for evaluating antibiotic efficacy against bacterial biofilms,” and Rutuja Bhamare presented “In-silico Comparison of Anaerobic Glucose-Xylose Consumption by Yeast and Bacteria in Single and Co-Culture Systems,” marking her first poster presentation.
Oreoluwa Alonge delivered an oral presentation on day 2 titled “Surface Functionalization on Microfluidic Chips for Macrophage–Fibroblast Communication Studies,” highlighting the lab’s work in microfluidic platforms for studying cell–cell communication.
From computational modeling to microfluidic chip design, the lab was proud to showcase its interdisciplinary research and connect with scientists across North Carolina.
