Last Saturday, on April 12, the Oliveira Lab organized its first "Python for Bioengineers" workshop, designed specifically to introduce undergraduate students and early-career researchers to Python. Python is one of the most flexible and powerful tools for scientific research and engineering.
The event began with opening remarks from Dr. Oliveira, who discussed the various applications of Python in addressing biological questions and highlighted his lab's ongoing projects. Next, Nona Hashemi, a senior PhD student from the Oliveira Lab, facilitated a hands-on coding session using her prepared materials. Her short lessons enabled attendees to code and understand the provided scripts. Following this, Henrique Nunez, an Oliveira Lab alumnus, presented his talk, "Building Your Career with Python," where he shared insights from his extensive experience in coding and how Python has shaped his professional journey. The morning session was held in a hybrid format, accommodating both in-person and remote participants. After the main sessions, in-person attendees enjoyed a valuable networking opportunity with Dr. Oliveira and the presenters. Additionally, Bukola Akindipe delivered an excellent remote demonstration of our image analysis tool. Then, students had a JSNN and Oliveira lab tour. Special thanks to Dr. Oliveira, the founder and director of Oliveira Outreach, and to Nona Hashemi, the operations director. All in-person attendees received certificates of attendance. Stay tuned for more workshops and opportunities!
