Four members of the Oliveira Lab presented their latest research at the Engineering Biology Research Consortium (EBRC) 2026 Annual Meeting, held on June 2–3, 2026, at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. The meeting brought together researchers from academia, industry, and government to discuss advances in engineering biology and synthetic biology.
Poster Presentations:
Nona Hashemi presented “Linking Gene Networks to Biofilm Structure and Production Across Species,”
Rutuja Bhamare presented “Computational Design and Analysis of Bioreactor Configurations for Efficient Glucose and Xylose Co-consumption,”
Bukola Akindipe presented “Linking Microfluidics Geometry to Microbial Behavior through Hydrodynamic Simulation and Digital Twin Modelling,”
Hamed Rastaghi presented “Modeling the Impact of Intercellular Communication on Bacterial Feedback Systems in Coupled Bioreactors,”
In addition to the poster presentations, all members of the Oliveira Lab attended the conference, participating in technical sessions, networking events, and discussions with researchers from across the engineering biology community. The meeting provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, learn about emerging technologies, and establish new collaborations.
The EBRC Annual Meeting also served as an opportunity for the group to strengthen interactions with colleagues and collaborators while showcasing the diverse research efforts underway in the Oliveira Lab. Congratulations to Nona Hashemi, Rutuja Bhamare, Bukola Akindipe, and Hamed Rastaghi for representing the lab and sharing their work with the broader engineering biology community.
