The Oliveira Lab would like to thank Dr. Casey Theriot for accepting our invitation to present her research during the JSNN Seminar Series. Her work provides insights into how bile salt hydrolases (BSHs) shape the bile acid landscape to promote colonization resistance against harmful pathogens. In her seminar, “Reengineering the Gut Bile Acid Landscape to Restrict C. difficile,” Dr. Theriot details the impact of antibiotic resistance on the gut microbiome, the mechanisms of C. difficile infection, and how gut bacteria-modified bile acids can play a critical role in protecting against C. diff. As our featured seminar speaker, Dr. Theriot's visit included tours of the JSNN facility and the Oliveira Lab, lunch with JSNN students, and insightful conversation during the JSNN student-led podcast "Navigating Nano." We thank Dr. Theriot for her time, wish her well in her research, and look forward to future collaborations.
